SFCCA budget: commentary and vote

Please provide your feedback on the 2025-2026 budget proposal:

At our last general association meeting on May 20th we had a handout with our proposed budget and had a brief discussion about some of the proposed items.

Details for the proposed budget can be found in the posting made on the the listserv on June 29th, here: https://groups.io/g/SFCCAMembers/message/15441 – Please view the details there and provide comments in response on the listserv.

Our next opportunity to vote on the budget in person would be at our next scheduled general meeting on July 15th, though there is a separate post about cancelling that meeting as the July meeting has not been well attended in the past and it is not required by our by-laws.

I would like to proceed at this time with the assumption that we will cancel our July general meeting and ask for your feedback on the budget via our listserv, followed by a virtual vote after no less than a week of discussion/feedback.

The executive committee’s focus on this budget is:

  1. Invest in A/V equipment that will enable remote meeting attendance
  2. Invest in a printer and supplies so that we can print our own newsletters and flyers to enable increased physical distribution of neighborhood and association news
  3. Register to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit

These one-time investments would exceed our expected income based on recent member counts. We see this utilization of our reserve funds as representing a broader value that will show benefits over several years. Further, some of our expenses may be reduced via the printer investment and if we complete the process to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit as we will then be qualified to receive some tech services at a reduced cost or for free.

July 15 General Association Meeting Cancellation Question

Please provide your feedback regarding the potential cancellation of our next scheduled general association meeting on July 15th.

The July meeting has historically seen low attendance – for example last year there was a last minute rally to ensure we had enough active members present to represent a quorum so that we could vote on our budget. At this time we do not have any speakers/guests scheduled to join us, and our only major agenda item will be to discuss and hold a vote on our budget.

I’ve just sent an email [to the listserv, also posted on the blog] asking for your feedback on the proposed budget, and mentioned that we may hold a virtual, email-based vote on the budget in lieu of an in-person vote at our next meeting.

There are some topics that I think that we should discuss as an association in the near future, but I can schedule virtual meetings during the coming days/weeks similar to the series of discussions that I scheduled in April and May. E.g. There has been some movement on some of the zoning proposals that we’ve been tracking related to attainable housing/more housing now and the University Boulevard corridor plan, and I’d also like to discuss social events and our communications with our website and newsletter.

Please share your feedback this week – I’d like to make a final decision by the end of this week.

SFCCA Meeting: Tuesday, May 21 at 7pm

Please join us for a very important community meeting this upcoming Tuesday, where our guest speaker will be Nkosi Yearwood, the lead planner for the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (“UBCP” or “The Plan”), being drafted under the auspices of Montgomery Planning. At this relatively advanced stage in the process, the plan’s current iteration has a number of profound implications for the greater Four Corners area, including our own South Four Corners neighborhood. Come hear what Mr. Yearwood has to say about these concerns, and how the plan may affect our neighborhood. There will be an opportunity to ask specific questions. For general background on the plan, please see the Advocacy article, “Montgomery Planning Initiatives” beginning on page 4.

We will meet at the Schwienhaut Senior Center located at 1000 Forest Glen Road. The meeting begins at 7 pm and ends promptly at 8:30 pm. All are welcome to attend!
